To make unemployed people self employed the government has taken several initiatives. Major thrust however has been given to the rural sector. This is not to say that the urban sector has been deprived of such programs.
Government Jobs Programs in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh
Urban sector: To help educated youths become self employed government has announced several schemes. Whilesome schemes provide free of cost traininh others offer loans. By availing loans youths can set up their own business.
All such schemes have an annual target of more than 2 lakh beneficiaries. Assistance is provided to matriculate youths in the age group of 19-35 years. However plus two level are given preference. Those who posses ITI passed certificates or are trained techinally or women, are provided with a fixed quota. A ceiling of income has been fixed for eligibility under the scheme.
Government Jobs for Men and Women
In the rural sector one adult of each household is provided with a Job Card. With the card the member can avail loans or a job. Women are given priority. One-third of beneficiaries under the Programme are to be women. To avail the jobs or loans an application has to be sent to the Gram Panchayat or Programme.
If one gets a job then remuneration is provided according to the the statutory minimum wage applicable to workers in the State. Loans are provided along with assistance to start small scalebusiness in homes.
Women particularly are the main beneficiaries. Training is provided to improve their skills in making home based products like incense sticks,clay pots, baskets, handicrafts,etc. Loans are sanctioned after the completion of training.In many cases the government buy products from these workers and markets it.
